McMillian Farms is a veteran-first agricultural education farm in Baltimore County. We grow fresh fruits and vegetables for veterans while teaching youth hands-on skills in farming, STEM, conservation, and service.

Our promise is simple: the first harvest belongs to those who first served, the rest is for the community.

Our Mission

Rooted in Service,
Grown with Purpose

McMillian Farms was born from a personal experience. After spending 11 days in a VA hospital because my blood pressure would not come under control, I realized that access to healthy food can be the difference between life and death. When my doctors recommended a mediterranean diet, a "heart-healthy diet", but I live in the middle of Baltimore, near Penn Station, there are no stores. That's when I realized as a veteran that I wasn't going to die fighting for my country outside the county, instead it would be right here inside my county, slowly poisoned in the mind and body; all for a dollar. I want to live!!!

While at the VA I saw others who were there for uncontrolled blood pressure. Every last person I spoke with were from different areas and communities in Maryland, yet we all had the same thing in common — "poor food choices." For some of them, even if they wanted to change the way they eat, where they live, their environment impacted their health in some way.

That experience changed my life. I made a commitment that if I ever had the opportunity, I would build a farm where the first harvest would always go to veterans who served our country.

Today, McMillian Farms grows more than fruits and vegetables — we grow healthier lives, future farmers, innovators, and community leaders. Young people learn agriculture, science, technology, environmental stewardship, and service by working alongside volunteers to grow food that helps veterans fight high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and other preventable diseases.

Every tree we plant, every garden we build, and every lesson we teach is rooted in one promise:

The first harvest honors our veterans. The rest feeds our community.

Veteran First Harvest Program

First Harvest,
First Honor

Before our produce reaches any market, table, or community basket — it goes to our veterans.

Each season, we set aside the very first harvest — the freshest, most abundant yield of the year — exclusively for veterans and their families. It's not charity. It's honor. It's a promise that the land they protected will always give back to them first.
